Tatton Park Biennial Short-listed for Lever Prize 2009
Tatton Park Biennial is one of three organisations short-listed for the prestigious Lever Prize 2009. This major annual award for world class art and cultural organisations in the North West is managed and judged by North West Business Leadership Team, with support from Culture Northwest and Arts and Business Northwest. The winner receives a £10,000 award from North West Development Agency, £10,000 match funding from Arts and Business Northwest and the invaluable opportunity to work with NWBLT members during their winning year. Previous winners have included Tate Liverpool in 2008 and Manchester International Festival in 2007. The Lever Prize was launched in 2005. Named after the patron of the arts and business magnate William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme, the Prize aims to revive the historic traditions of philanthropy in the region. All applicants have been judged on the calibre of their work, their international or potentially international significance and the creativity of their plans for the future and possible work with NWBLT members. Other organisations short-listed include FutureEverything CIC, which presents Futuresonic Arts Festival in Manchester and the National Football Museum in Preston. This is the first major award Tatton Park Biennial has been short-listed for and is a wonderful achievement in the inaugural year of the event. Brendan Flanagan, General Manager of Tatton Park commented "it is quite a coup to be short listed in the Biennial's first year. The range of artworks and the programme of activities have been really well received so far and bring an added dimension to anyone's visit to Tatton's gardens. We are delighted to be short listed, particularly during Cheshire's Year of Gardens '08." Biennial Curators, Danielle Arnaud and Jordan Kaplan from Parabola, said "To receive such an accolade on a first journey is encouraging not only for us but for the artists and the works they created for Tatton's gardens; it is very good news for contemporary art!" The winner of the Lever Prize 2009 will be announced in January 2009. |
