Biennial Goes Big!
Tatton Park Biennial is set to go larger still this month with repeated coverage of the event on Manchester's BBC Big Screen. Organisers hope this will be a powerful means of sharing the Biennial with the urban shoppers and city workers of Manchester: a taste of culture with your lunchtime sandwich, a splash of art with an evening drink. Sited in Exchange Square the Big Screen is a fantastic city centre gathering place. Aptly named, the screen on the square also provides a focal point for cultural exchange and an exchange of ideas with the random passers by and the dedicated Big Screen observers. The short Biennial film has been created for the Big Screen by videographer, Gavin Repton. Gavin has worked on a number of projects, from corporate pieces to experimental, sports and narrative work. His varied experience has ideally suited him to the challenges of this commission. Gavin undertook the majority of the filming during the official opening day of Tatton Park Biennial on Friday 2 May. He spent time with the different artists, talking to them about their work to try and help capture the diversity of their pieces. Personally, he loved 'Escape Vehicle No 4', by Heather & Ivan Morison, the wooden dome sited by Golden Pond, because "It is a really strange looking piece but it looks natural, like it's always been there" Featuring artist and curator interviews and beautiful footage of the artworks, the Biennial Big Screen film will hopefully provide a taster of the event for Manchester visitors and encourage new audiences to experience Tatton Park Biennial this summer. Biennial organisers are looking forward to seeing the artworks writ large on the Manchester skyline. Curators Danielle Arnaud and Jordan Kaplan say, "We feel the film conveys the playful spirit of this first Biennial, its ambitions and the wonderful works the artists have produced for Tatton Park in 2008." The film will also be available to view at www.tattonparkbiennial.org |
