See Baldrick at the Battle of Tatton Field!
Know your baldrick from your arquebus, your musket from your mace? See them in all in action at the thrilling Battle of Tatton Field on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June. The Battle marks the finale of the Medieval Fayre, returning to the Old Hall for its 10th anniversary, in association with Plantagenet Events. Over the last decade the Medieval Fayre has rapidly established itself as one of the leading events in the country celebrating medieval life. Attracting over 250 re-enactors and nearly 60 traders, there is a fantastic festival atmosphere and sense of camaraderie during the weekend. Until the end of the day that is, when cannon fire flashes, muskets explode and battle cries sound around the grounds for the Battle of Tatton Field. See two terrifying battalions of men at arms clash across the battlefield. Witness the firing of the Perrier (a medieval catapult) and hear the twang of the longbow and wallop of the sword. This year, Plantagenet Events promise a 'Bigger, Better, Battle' so be prepared! But there is much more to the Medieval Fayre than the hue and cry of the battlefield. Traders set up colourful stands in the beautiful grounds of the Old Hall, selling authentic medieval food, crafts, ironwork and clothing from home spun fabrics such as linen and worsted. Nothing to buy from medieval times? You'll be surprised! Living history displays of cooking over open fires and domestic chores such as spinning and weaving, all help add to the carnival atmosphere of this travelling fayre. Mick Ricketts, Old Hall Steward commented "Many people have been known to arrive as visitors and leave as re-enactors, they have so enjoyed the great atmosphere and taste of medieval life!" Thirsty peasants can enjoy a moment's respite in the ale and meat tent and be entertained by the falconry display, archery tournaments and cannon demonstrations. 'Squeekes Noyse' a marvellous musical duo create medieval music on the bagpipes and tabor drum. Mick Ricketts commented " With men at arms, archers, gunners, traders and a rag-tag army of hangers-on, there is so much to see and do this weekend. Why not bring along Dads on Fathers Day to help us celebrate Tatton's 10th Medieval Fayre". The Medieval Fayre takes place at the Old Hall on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June from 11am-5pm (last entry 4pm). Adults £5, Children £2.50, Family £14 (2 adults and 3 children). Park Entry £4.50 per car. Old Hall is also open for tours. |
